According to the Century Foundation, it is being estimated that unemployment benefits have now been lost by 12 million people. The lapse in benefits being provided is a direct result of Congress failing to produce a COVID spending package that actually benefits Americans. The spending package would have funded the unemployment program, which would have enabled those who have lost their job during the CCP virus pandemic to obtain unemployment benefits.

It is predicted a total of 16 million Americans will have lost their benefits by the end of the year.

Congress had passed an initial COVID spending package this past week. However, President Trump, on December 22nd announced to the country that he would veto the package, calling it “wasteful.” The President was agitated over the additional monies being directed toward other countries, special interest groups, and pet-projects. The initial package only gave Americans $600.

Donald Trump then directed Congress to quickly pass a spending package that would provide Americans $2,000 in relief. A new spending package has yet to be approved through Congress.

Additional repercussions related to a delay in a spending package include funding of the Federal Government. The new deadline is December 29th.
