The recent foreign based hacks into US agencies have been called one of the biggest cyber attacks in history. One of the targets was the SolarWinds Orion Network, which was used by the cyber security firm FireEye.
According to Caleb Buhs, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, his state utilized the network for various government activities. Buhs claimed that the network “was not connected with any election-related networks in the Michigan Department of State,” which is responsible for running Michigan elections.
Michigan has been under a microscope in recent weeks as Conservatives point to the voting irregularities within the state. The recent voting audit inside Antrim County resulted in President Trump winning the county although former Vice President Joe Biden had originally been reported as the winner.
“At the direction of the Department of Homeland Security, we removed SolarWinds from our network immediately and it has not been put back into service. Michigan has completed a forensic investigation and has determined here was no indication of compromise within our systems,” Buhs said in his statement.
