A new list of blacklisted companies has been released by the Commerce Department. Citing ties to Chinese and Russian military forces these 103 companies (58 Chinese and 45 Russian) are now part of a banned list called the “Military End User” (MEU) list.
The rationale behind making such a list is based upon the need to protect US interests by not funneling US technology that enables destabilizing military programs. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said, “The Department recognizes the importance of leveraging its partnerships with U.S. and global companies to combat efforts by China and Russia to divert U.S. technology for their destabilizing military programs, including by highlighting red flag indicators such as those related to Communist Chinese military companies identified by the Department of Defense.”
US companies who intend to trade with companies on the new MEU list must now have a government-issued license before they can “export, reexport, or transfer goods.” Aerospace is the primary industry included in the list. In addition, Huawei has also been included on the list.
