President Trump recently released a statement about his opinions of the controversial stimulus package that Congress sent to him to sign off. He called many of the items included in the bill “wasteful and unnecessary” and described them as having very little to do with the pandemic at all.
“I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000, or $4,000 for a couple. I’m also asking Congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation, and to send me a suitable bill or else the next administration will have to deliver a package, and maybe that administration will be me.”
Many Americans were unhappy with the stimulus package that Congress had been fighting over for months. Over half of the $2.3 trillion “stimulus” deal would go to other countries for defense purposes. In his statement released via Twitter, President Trump said “For example, among the more than 5,000 pages in this bill, which nobody in Congress has read because of its length and complexity. It’s called the COVID relief bill, but it has almost nothing to do with COVID”
The President has not said whether or not he will veto the bill, although many of his supporters believe that he should. He has the option to ‘pocket veto’ the bill, which would technically not count as a full veto and would instead force Congress to rework the bill and start the process all over.
