Appearing before an official-looking, but ultimately fictitious, “Office of the President-Elect,” Biden described his grandest vision for his first 100 days. He wants everyone to wear masks. “I’m going to as the public – to mask. Just 100 days. Not forever. 100 days.”

The idea of wearing a mask to slow the spread of the China virus has been around for some months now in the United States. And most businesses and localities either encourage or demand the use of them, even outdoors. Joe’s 100-day goal is anything but new or inspiring.

While the use of masks is promoted among mainstream media, social activists, and governments, the actual effectiveness of wearing masks has been called into question according to a study out of Denmark which concluded:

The recommendation to wear surgical masks to supplement other public health measures did not reduce the SARS-CoV-2 infection rate among wearers by more than 50% in a community with modest infection rates, some degree of social distancing, and uncommon general mask use. The data were compatible with lesser degrees of self-protection.

As the nation waits to see the outcomes of various legal cases in key battleground states, Joe’s grand mask-wearing vision evokes more eye-rolling than inspiration. But what do we expect from a man who thinks we should be impressed with a fake office that he doesn’t really occupy? Instead of COVID-fatigue, we should be more concerned our eyes lungs can handle all strain of repeated rolling and exasperated sighs.
