Seven members of a peacekeeping force were killed in a helicopter crash within Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Five of the killed were Americans. In total, eight people were onboard. Of the survivors, one additional American survived the ordeal and was medically evacuated and was airlifted to an Israeli hospital.
An investigation into the causes of the crash are said to be ongoing. Currently, reports from the area do not indicate foul play.
The peacekeeping force involved in the crash were part of the Multinational Force Observers (MFO). The MFO is an independent force, created in 1979, to monitor the borders between Egypt and Israel, according to the two nation’s peace accord.
