President Trump signed the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 on Sunday, making way for the next round of stimulus checks to be sent out. Although the President advocated for $2,000, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the Senate will address President Trump’s request for higher payments later this week.
An official at the Treasury Department said that Americans can expect their $600 check as early as Tuesday night. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin wrote to Twitter, “These payments may begin to arrive in some accounts by direct deposit as early as tonight and will continue into next week.” Paper checks will begin getting mailed out on Wednesday, December 30th.
The Treasury Department released a press statement stating “This second round of payments will provide critical economic support to those who, through no fault of their own, have been adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The IRS also released a statement that said the bureau will use information already on file to process direct deposit payments, and that any eligible individuals will not need to take any action. They also stated that anyone who did not receive their payment by direct deposit earlier this year will receive either a check or “in some instances, a debit card.”
Much like the first round of stimulus checks, married couples will receive the sum of two payments and $600 for any dependents under the age of 17.
