Attorney Lin Wood is well known for his experience with defamation lawsuits. One of his biggest cases throughout his career was his representation of Richard Jewell, the security guard who was falsely accused of bombing the Centennial Park Olympic Games in Georgia. Knowing his background in these kinds of cases, Sidney Powell asked him to “represent her and respond to SmartMatic litigation threat,” Wood wrote to his Twitter.

In the letter attached to the tweet, Wood stated “I have carefully reviewed your letter of December 15, 2020. I am not impressed. Ms.Powell retracts nothing,” he finished the letter with “File your lawsuit.” This response was to a letter sent by the SmartMatic company saying that Powell slandered the voting machine company on numerous news networks including Fox Business, Fox News, and Newsmax.

Their letter stated that Powell’s comments about SmartMatic impacted their company’s business and suggests if she does not retract them, their lawyers plan to file a defamation lawsuit. The original letter included a short section directly referring to its ties (or lack there-of) with Dominion Voting Systems.
“Its [SmartMatic’s] software was not used by any other company for the 2020 U.S. election, including Dominion. Dominion did not use Smartmatic’s software in any county where its voting technology was used in the 2020 U.S. election. Smartmatic has never provided Dominion with any software, hardware, or other technology. There are no ties between Smartmatic and Dominion, including ownership ties, software licensing, or business at all.” – Letter to Sidney Powell from SmartMatic regarding Dominion Voting Systems
